about

An alternative Christmas song.

lyrics

There's a midnight bell. from the streets comes the sound of a radio.
A drunk goes by, yelling Christmas along.
I've been hearing the sounds of Tinseltown with every step I take,
but I don't get the song.

In the glitter of the cards I keep hearing of Love and Promises,
The old note saying, "Be in touch next year,"
But for every sound of wonder and for every song of joy,
I still sense a tear.

Somebody told me of gifts and Santas, of reindeer winging over Northern Skies,
Somebody told me of a love that never dies,
And someone must have painted those pictures.
Someone must have given me those views.
I've heard so many things my brain keeps getting confused,
But whatever this Christmas is, I hope that it's you.

I tried to ring but got another man's voice on your answerphone.
I guess the kids'll be asking, wondering where I'll be.
Say the big store closed just as I reached the doorway.
Tell them I"ll see them sometime.

In the drizzle by the station, I met Champagne Charlie begging,
Your voice in my head screaming, "Leave him! Walk away!'
But for old times' sake, we split a can
And talked about how life is for us today.

Somebody told me of a distant journey, of a star floating over
Eastern skies,
Somebody told me of a love that never dies,
And someone must have painted those pictures.
Someone must have given me those views.
I've heard so many things my brain keeps getting confused,
But whatever this Christmas is, I hope that it's you.

And somebody told me of a new generation.
Somebody told me of a new birth.
Somebody told me of a Love that burns in everyone in Earth,
But whatever this Christmas is,
Whatever this thing called Christmas is.
Whatever this Christmas is,
I hope that it's you.
